3 ejemplos ‘Writing – Part 2 – Letter/Email’

Tiempo estimado de lectura: 2 minuto/s

Below are three examples of Part 2 Letter/Email tasks for the B2 First (FCE) writing exam. Each one follows the appropriate structure and tone for the task, staying within the 140-190 word limit.

Part 2 Example 1: Formal Letter

Task: You recently visited a restaurant where you had a disappointing experience. Write a letter to the restaurant manager explaining what happened, why you were unhappy, and what you would like the restaurant to do.

Write your letter (140-190 words).

Model Answer 1:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my disappointment with the experience I had at your restaurant last Saturday evening, October 5th.

Firstly, my party and I had to wait over an hour for our table, even though we had made a reservation. Once seated, the service was extremely slow, and we waited an additional 45 minutes before our orders were taken. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and poorly presented. The steak I ordered was overcooked, and the vegetables were undercooked. I mentioned this to the waiter, but unfortunately, no action was taken to resolve the situation.

I believe that such poor service and food quality are unacceptable for a restaurant of your reputation. I would appreciate a refund or a voucher for a future visit to compensate for this unpleasant experience.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,
[Your Name]

Part 2 Example 2: Informal Email

Task: A friend of yours is coming to visit your city for a few days, and they have asked for advice on what to see and do. Write an email recommending activities and places they should visit during their stay.

Write your email (140-190 words).

Model Answer 2:

Hi [Friend’s Name],

I’m so excited that you’re coming to visit my city! There are lots of great things to do, and I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time.

First, you have to check out the old town. It’s full of beautiful historic buildings and little cafes where you can enjoy a coffee. The cathedral is also worth a visit – the architecture is incredible, and you can even climb to the top for a great view of the city.

If you like museums, the City Art Gallery is a must-see. It has an impressive collection of modern and classical art. For something more relaxed, there’s a lovely park in the center of town where we can have a picnic or take a walk.

In the evenings, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. I recommend trying the local seafood – it’s delicious!

Let me know if you need more info. Can’t wait to see you!

Take care,
[Your Name]

Part 2 Example 3: Semi-Formal Letter

Task: You recently borrowed a book from your English teacher, and now you want to return it. Write a letter thanking your teacher and explaining what you enjoyed about the book.

Write your letter (140-190 words).

Model Answer 3:

Dear Mr. Johnson,

I hope you are well. I’m writing to return the book you kindly lent me, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and to thank you for recommending it to me.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the novel, especially the way the characters develop throughout the story. I found Elizabeth Bennet to be a fascinating and strong character, and I really admired her independence and intelligence. The relationship between her and Mr. Darcy was complex and full of surprises, which kept me engaged until the very end.

I also appreciated the way Austen used humor to explore serious social issues of the time, such as class and marriage. The novel gave me a lot to think about, and I can see why it’s considered a classic.

Thank you again for lending me the book. I hope we can discuss it when we next meet in class.

Best regards,
[Your Name]

Each of these examples uses the appropriate tone and structure for a formal, informal, or semi-formal letter or email. They address the task clearly and remain within the 140-190 word limit, following conventions for letter writing such as greetings and sign-offs.
